Who Was Eduardo Manzano

Eduardo Eugenio Manzano Balderas was born in Mexico City on July 18, 1938. In starting, he study in National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), but when institute go on strike, his life change direction and he enter in comedy world. This moment basically open the door for his whole career.

His first big opportunity come with a TV show call “La Hora de los Imitadores” (The Hour of the Imitators). On this show he start practicing stage presence, timing and characters. There he meet Enrique Cuenca, and both together create the comedy duo “Los Polivoces”, which later become super popular in Mexico and latino homes in US.

Rise of Los Polivoces

In 1960s, Los Polivoces first start performing in theater. After that they move to television and their fame grow very fast. They have two main TV programs that make them legends:

  • Los Polivoces (1971 – 1973)
  • El Show de Los Polivoces (1973 – 1976)

From this shows, many iconic characters are born, like Agallón Mafafas, Gordolfo Gelatino, Don Teofilito, and the funny “Wash and Wear” guy. This characters stay in mexican pop culture for decades, and even today clips and memes keep going around online, also between US latino audience.
