How to catch Mega Dragonite in Pokemon GO
Big news from today’s Pokémon Presents event! The upcoming game Pokémon Legends: Z-A will bring back Mega Evolutions — and not just the old ones. We’re also getting new Mega Pokémon, starting with one that fans have wanted for years: Mega Dragonite!
Mega Evolutions Are Back
Mega Evolutions were first added in Pokémon X and Y. They let some Pokémon change into a cooler, stronger version of themselves during a fight.
But for the last few years, Mega Evolutions were missing from the main games. Now, they’re finally coming back — and they’ll be a big part of Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which comes out on October 16 for both the Nintendo Switch and the new Switch 2.
Mega Dragonite – Finally!
Today’s big surprise was Mega Dragonite! Dragonite has always been a favorite among players, and now it’s getting a Mega Evolution for the first time.
Even though we don’t know its full look or abilities yet, fans can’t wait to see more .It’s likely to be stronger and maybe even look completely different.
More New Mega Pokémon Coming
Mega Dragonite is just the beginning. The game will include more brand-new Mega Evolutions — for Pokémon from different generations. That means lots of surprises are still coming!
And since the game is set in Kalos — the same region where Mega Evolutions first began — it’s the perfect place to bring them back.

How to Get Regular (Base) Dragonite
Catch and Evolve Dratini
- Dratini → Dragonair: costs 25 Dratini Candy.
- Dragonair → Dragonite: costs 100 Dratini Candy
Sources of Dratini Candy
- Spawn in water biomes (riverbanks, lakes, piers) where Magikarp or Psyduck frequently appear—these areas often yield Dratini as well
- Hatch Dratini from 10 km eggs (Adventure Sync rewards can help)
- Use Pinap Berries and set Dratini as your Buddy to maximize candy collection.
- Participate in Community Days, events, and raid-based Field Research to boost spawn rates and discover opportunities for wild Dragonite
