Amazon Website Outage: Amazon Site Down for Several Hours, Company Reveals Reason
Amazon website and shopping app experienced a major outage affecting thousands of users. The company confirmed the issue was caused by a software code deployment. Here is the full update
If you went to Amazon yesterday or today to buy something, then maybe you noticed that the website was not working properly. Many users complained that checkout was not working, product prices were not showing, and even account information was not accessible.
Actually the Amazon website and mobile shopping app had a big technical issue for some time, because of that millions of users faced problems. Later the company itself explained that the issue happened because of a software code deployment.

Why Did the Amazon Website Go Down?
Amazon website and shopping app suddenly stopped working for many users on Thursday.
Many users said that when they were trying to buy a product the checkout page was not opening. Some people also said that product prices were not showing and some users could not log into their account to check order history.
This kind of issue continued for several hours, which created a lot of trouble for people doing online shopping.
How Many People Reported the Outage?
According to outage tracking website Downdetector:
- The problem started around 2 p.m. (ET)
- By around 4 p.m. more than 22,000 users reported the issue
- Many users reported problems with checkout, product pages and account access
This clearly shows that it was a large technical outage that affected thousands of users.
What Did Amazon Say About It?
Amazon spokesperson Jennie Bryant released a statement about the situation.
She said that:
- Some customers temporarily experienced issues while shopping
- The issue was related to a software code deployment
- The problem has now been fixed
- The website and app are running smoothly again
So according to the company, this was not because of hacking or a cyberattack but happened due to an internal software update deployment.
Amazon Fresh Also Faced Problems
This outage did not only affect the main website but also impacted Amazon’s grocery delivery service.
Users of Amazon Fresh also reported that:
- Orders were not placing
- Purchase history was not showing
- Account details were not loading properly
Because of that, grocery delivery users also faced some inconvenience.
Amazon Cloud Services Recently Faced Issues Too
Amazon’s cloud computing platform Amazon Web Services (AWS) has also recently experienced some outages.
Reports said that:
- AWS data centers in the UAE and Bahrain were hit by drone strikes
- Three data centers were damaged in those incidents
Because of that, Amazon’s cloud services also experienced some disruptions for a period of time.
Bahrain Data Center Was Targeted
Iranian state media reported that Amazon’s data center in Bahrain was targeted by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
They claimed that Amazon supports U.S. military and intelligence activities, which is why the data center was targeted.
However, Amazon said that its cloud services are functioning normally.
What Is the Current Situation of Amazon?
According to Amazon:
- The website and mobile app are working normally again
- The software deployment issue has been fixed
- Users can now shop without any problems
So at the moment the Amazon platform is fully operational.
